PHP 8.4 on every plan from 21 November

Production hosting for things that are not products yet.

Managed hosting for prototypes, internal tools and the demo that has to survive being linked. PHP 8.3 by default, PostgreSQL 17, Valkey 8 beside Redis 7.4, Node.js 22 on the Jod line.

Edge

Anycast from Frankfurt, Ashburn and Singapore, with HTTP/3 and TLS 1.3 on every hostname and Imunify360 in front of shared nodes. The image above is 824 bytes, which took an afternoon.

Runtimes

PHP 8.3 by default and 8.4 from 21 November, property hooks included. PHP 8.1 is security-only. Node.js 22 Jod, Bun 1.1 with Windows support, Deno 2, and Python 3.13, where the free-threaded build is there for anyone who wants to find out.

Databases and cache

PostgreSQL 17, MySQL 8.4 LTS and MariaDB 11.4 LTS. Valkey 8 runs beside Redis 7.4 and is the default for new caches. The licence changed in March, the fork went to the Linux Foundation, and we now carry both.

Images and panels

Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Noble Numbat, Debian 12, AlmaLinux 9.4 and Rocky Linux 9.4, with cPanel & WHM on the LTS line, Plesk Obsidian 18.0.6x and CloudLinux on shared nodes. CentOS 7 reached end of life on 30 June. The conversation we opened about that last year concluded in the last fortnight of June.

Virtualisation

Proxmox VE 8.2 and plain KVM on dedicated nodes, with live migration and an importer that reads VMDK. We wrote it in February for our own estate. Interest from outside the company did not need explaining.

Interfaces

REST, webhooks, and the GraphQL endpoint we announced we were retiring last year and have not retired.

Who this is for

Some of what runs here becomes a company. Most of it does not.

In a normal week the platform carries prototypes, internal tools, two or three wedding sites and a number of Y Combinator applications with a live demo attached. We size the fleet around that ratio rather than around the ambition.

Customers

We do not publish a customer wall. The logos most hosts show belong to companies that were acquired, and a wall of acquired companies reads as a warning. If you want references we will introduce you to someone who is still trading.

Reviewed 4 October. The ESXi column is kept for customers who are partway through leaving it.

Changelog

  • PHP 8.4 on all plans, with property hooks and asymmetric visibility. PHP 8.1 moves to security-only.
  • The accent colour introduced in June is retired. It had become associated.
  • CentOS 7 end of life. The last images moved to AlmaLinux 9.4 with six days in hand.
  • cdn.polyfill.io removed from the legacy console shell. It had been queued for removal since last October.
  • Documentation search was reviewed and left as it is. The alternative recommended glue.
  • Valkey added beside Redis 7.4 after the licence change, and made the default for new caches in September.
  • Rack change control now records which fasteners were refitted, and by whom.
