ON EVERY ACCOUNT

Your own domain, your own cgi-bin running as you, and mail that arrives at your own name, and nightly statistics from Analog and Webalizer.

MP3 and RealServer G2 are served with the correct MIME type, which is the whole reason a file plays at one host and downloads at another.
THE STANDARD BOX

A Cobalt RaQ 3. One rack unit, blue, with the little screen on the front that tells you its address.

We rack it, we watch it and we keep the spare. You have the root password and we would rather you used it than asked us to.
Y2K ready since 1997

Powered by Apache

This page is 760 wide so that it fits an 800 by 600 screen with the scrollbar showing.
Hosting for the site you have not launched yet, and for the one you have.
SlopHost puts your site on Apache 1.3.9 with your own cgi-bin, your own MySQL database and a control panel you do not have to write to us to use.

A good deal of what we host this year is a company that does not exist yet. That is a normal thing to be hosting: the account you take out in a bedroom is the same account on the day the traffic arrives.

Every plan is the same software on the same network. What differs is the disk, the machine and who holds the root password.
WHAT IT RUNS ON
Apache 1.3.9 on FreeBSD and on Red Hat Linux 6.0. PHP 3.0.12 everywhere, with PHP 4.0 in beta on one machine. Addresses ending .php3 will go on ending .php3 for a while after that stops being a beta.

MySQL 3.22 and Perl 5.005_03 as standard. Windows NT 4.0 with IIS 4.0, Active Server Pages 2.0 and MS SQL Server 7.0 on separate machines, with Allaire Cold Fusion 4.5 licensed on the same side of the room.

FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions are installed on all of it, for the same reason as two years ago, which is that your copy of FrontPage will not publish without them.
CONTROL PANEL
cPanel 3 is on every account: mailboxes, subdomains, mailing lists, databases, cron and the logs, none of which now require a letter to us. Managed RaQ accounts also get Web Host Manager.

Console is offered alongside cPanel. We expect to retire Console within twelve months.

Managed Cobalt RaQ Yes Yes
Cold Fusion 4.5 Yes Yes Yes

Read off each company's own pages in September; a dash means the pages do not say so. Bigstep will build you a store for nothing, which is a real offer and not one we intend to match.

FROM THE OPERATIONS ROOM

NEW 22 SEPT. If your site is on a university network, please be aware that the shape of dormitory bandwidth changed in June and has not changed back.

8 SEPT. 99.9% network uptime, guaranteed. That is eight hours and forty-five minutes a year, and we would rather you knew the number than the percentage.

30 AUG. We are asked weekly whether we will be open over the New Year. We will be in the building.

12 JULY. In February a lingerie broadcast took a large part of the web off the air for an afternoon, and every operations meeting in this industry has had a slide about it since. If you are planning an afternoon like that, tell us the date.
WHAT WE DO NOT DO

We do not design your pages and we do not appraise domain names. We do not run a WAP gateway; nobody who has asked for one has been able to say what they would put on it.
  * Unlimited describes our provisioning system, which has no field for a number, and not the disk, which has a size.
If the project turns into a company this year, tell us before the traffic does rather than after.
What we were promising in 1996 and in 1997 is still on the archive machine.
